Hazing
Belmont University is committed to the value of the dignity and worth of the individual and to the provision of an atmosphere that nurtures the individual’s self-esteem and growth. No hazing or any other activity that is an affront to the dignity and self-respect of any person is permitted by the university as a part of any university activity.
Hazing is a crime in Tennessee.“Hazing” means any intentional or reckless act in Tennessee on or off the property of any higher education institution by one student acting alone or with others that is directed against any other student that endangers the mental or physical health or safety of that student or that induces or coerces a student to endanger such student’s mental or physical health or safety. “Hazing” does not include customary athletic events or similar connection with (real or perceived) initiation into or affiliation with any organization. Persons or organizations engaged in acts of hazing will be subject to disciplinary action.
